Arriezu is a surname with a wine flavor, it bears fruit off when September arrives and it is most enjoyable with the Family.
Our wines have their roots in our Family, especially in our grandparents who, without even realizing it, were already creating this project in San Adrián decades ago. They are our inspiration in our daily hard work, which is based on the need to respect the land in order to obtain the best fruit that it can give us.
It is a project in which the entire Arriezu family and team are currently committed and involved, but that began in 2013 when our CEO and founder, José Félix Arriezu (with studies in Viticulture and Oenology and with many years of experience in the national and international wine scene) embarked on the adventure of producing and then bottling good quality wine, for the first time, from grapes from his vineyard La Sombría, located in Pozaluzu. The result was a fresh, authentic wine with fruity aromas, that preserves the complexity of good quality wine.
This vital journey and this origin are what leads us to commit ourselves to organic farming since the 1990s, in order to produce excellent quality wines that are sustainable, coherent with our environment, and, in short, consistent with the philosophy that inspires us.
The finest soil produces the finest wine
JF Arriezu is a young Spanish winery founded with the aim of producing the best organic wine with grapes from its own vineyards in the Rioja and Rueda designations of origin (DO).
It has 72 hectares of its own vineyards in San Adrián, under the DOC Rioja, including the “Los Mejicanos”, a 43-hectare plot overlooking the Ebro Valley, which is the origin of more than 25% of the current DOC Rioja vineyards, as for many years it has been an incredible source of vine shoot production for vine growers.
Arriezu’s 90 hectares of vineyards under the Rueda DO are located on the “La Sombría” estate – the origin of the winemaking project – where our selection of pre-phylloxera Verdejos reaches its highest level of excellence.
Arriezu tries to respect and protect the grape as well as possible in order to maintain its essence in the wines it elaborates; each grapevine and each cluster is treated with the most outstanding care from its origin. We adapt to the times and patterns set by nature, such as the night-time harvest in Rueda and the daytime harvest in Rioja.
